Our first BIG snow of 2016!!

I think it's safe to say we had more snow to fall on January 22 and the days following than we have in years. The days leading up to this supposed snow storm had the weather stations talking about it constantly which also means everyone who works in a school system is also talking about it in hopes that school is closed! School was cancelled on Friday, January 22 for snow. It was raining the night before and still was even when we woke up that morning. The news was saying it would hit our area around 11:00 AM or so and sure enough, it did. I was still kind of skeptical though due to the amount of rain that had fallen. I was thinking there was no way for the snow to really stick since the ground was so wet but I was SO wrong! Since schools were closed, Adam went ahead and headed to the farm early that morning to get some things done before all the snow came so it was just me and the kids until about lunch. We played and played, but the kids favorite thing we did was build forts in their bedrooms. All kids I know get a huge kick out of doing this and we normally build forts in the living room, but they really loved the fact that we made one in their room to play in. It was funny because I would go back and forth between rooms to spend some time in each fort. Landon had all of  his superheroes in his while Adalyn had her baby dolls, stuffed animals and markers and coloring books set out just so. Before I knew it, we looked out of the window and sure enough, I saw the biggest, thickest snow flakes start to fall. We were all so excited! I was really hoping it would stick and we would get some good playing time out in it before it melted. That's how snow in Tennessee usually happens. It snows a little bit, then it's melted the very next day.
We didn't have any  issues with that happening this time. It was seriously one of the best snows we have had that I can remember.

We made our way into the living room to watch the snow fall. It was beautiful!

I took a few videos on my phone because I just couldn't believe how BIG the snowflakes were. It started covering the ground very quickly and I am not kidding when I say it literally snowed for about 24 hours. Again, best snow Middle Tennessee has received since who knows when!

We put our snow gear on and headed outside to play. Adam and I love snow just as much as the kids do so we were thrilled!

Is he not adorable?

All of this snow happened SO quickly! Just that morning, it was pouring rain. We had SO much rain you can see where it settled towards the very back of our yard. By the next day, it was a solid sheet of ice and covered with snow.

We came inside from playing to warm up and eat lunch, then naps for the kids. Typically, anytime Adam and I can squeeze in a nap we will, but on this particular day, we just laid in bed and watched the snow fall while watching TV. We have a bay window in our bedroom so we opened all 4 windows and it was just so beautiful and so peaceful to look at! We decided to skip a quick nap to enjoy the snow. When the kids woke up, we packed everything up and headed to my parents for an afternoon and evening of sledding! Now that my parents live in my grandparents house, we are still able to have the best hill ever to slide down when snow hits! My brother and I were sledding every single time it snowed throughout our childhood.
We drove through town and our little town was shut down! It was around 4:00 by then and the snowed had played a number on streets. Again, everything was so white and so pretty, I couldn't help but to be in awe.
We finally made it to my parents and immediately got dressed to go out and play once again!

My dad feeding hay

Dustin, Christina and Levi came over to play, too!
So much fun!

Once they left, we headed inside to eat pizza and to warm up, then got dressed again and headed back out! I'm tellin ya, when Tennessee gets snow like this, you take full advantage of it! And that's exactly what we did.

By the time we were finally getting ready to leave, it was 9:00. The kids wanted to stay the night so they were hyped up about that. When Adam and I left, it took us 1 hour to get home because all the roads were so bad. I ended up falling asleep. I should have taken that afternoon nap after all!

Adam and I woke up early Saturday morning and headed to the farm before we went back to my mom and dad's. But first, I HAD to take pictures of our house with all of that awesome snow!

We slowly made our way to the farm and around 11:00 I left Adam there and drove myself to my parents. I was dying to get outside with the kids and he still had a little bit more to do so he came once he was finished with everything. When it should only take me 15 minutes to get there, I bet it took closer to an hour because the roads scared me to death. They were horrible!
I was relieved when I finally made it and we all bundled up and headed out to play. My mom joined in on the fun, too! We stayed out for probably almost 2 hours.

That's my mom in case you can't tell
;)

We had so much fun playing that day. It's funny how everything sounded so quiet while we were outside. Something about snow can just bring stillness over everything. I thoroughly soaked up our time together playing. The Lord never ceases to amaze me with His beauty.

Once we came inside, we napped then ate a big dinner, then headed home.
Early service and Sunday School were cancelled for Sunday but we still went to the 11:00 service. The snow was slowly starting to melt away by then but due to our back country roads, school was cancelled for Monday as well!

We had such a fun weekend playing in the snow!!
