Chickens

The phone woke us up Saturday morning at 6:00 AM. It was the post office calling to let us know our baby chicks were in! Just like a kid, Adam pops out of bed and heads out of the door as fast as he can. We had been expecting them so he was eager to get them home. We have 41 baby chickens living in a huge brooder in our garage at the moment. They will stay there for around 2 weeks until they get big enough to be moved to their pen outside. We raised meet chickens a few months back. I have to say, it was the most delicious chicken ever! We cooked ours in the crock pot and boy oh boy was it nice and juicy! What's even better it knowing where your meat comes from and knowing it has been raised on non-medicated feed and grass. Yum! Adalyn knew we were getting some so she had been asking about them for a few days before they finally arrived. As you know, she is in heaven having her "baby chickies" where she can check on them, pet them, and hold them anytime she wants to. Here she is petting one first thing Saturday morning.
Not only is Adalyn in love with these chickens, Landon has shown a huge interest in them, too! Every time we hold him up over the brooder, he starts squealing and kicking his legs and moving his arms really fast. He even can peek over it while on his tip toes. It's adorable.
Here are some random pictures of our new family members.
They are all cute and adorable now, but as they get bigger, they get uglier and uglier! ha.
